Über das Studium:

Aerospace Engineering has always been the most outstanding discipline of all the engineering fields. Far from being limited to the Aerospace field alone, aerospace engineers can be found in every field of technology where the most challenging demands must be met.

The Aerospace Engineering Department of the Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt strives to prepare their students for  challenging tasks in their future professions. For this purpose, an outstanding curriculum has been implemented.

Most of the courses are given by lecturers from leading Aerospace Engineering companies using the newest methods and tools (such as ANSYS, CATIA software) and thereby ensure the most up-to-date education for our students.

In addition, the curriculum was developed so that the theory taught in the courses can be applied directly either in numerous student projects or in the outstanding research in various fields of Aerospace Engineering (see Research & Development). Students interested in a Bachelor curriculum with an Aerospace specialisation can earn a Bachelor degree in Mechatronics with the Aerospace specialisation here at the FH.

The combination of mechatronics and aerospace engineering is the ideal answer to the needs of today's and tomorrow's industry. 

This specialization provides a comprehensive insight into systems that are in daily use in the aerospace industry. Each aircraft and each satellite is intrinsically a complex mechatronic system combined with elements of the classic aerospace disciplines such as fluid mechanics, aerodynamics and many more. Hands-on assignments teach principles of aerospace engineering, the operation of aerospace propulsion systems, and requirements for materials and manufacturing processes.

Good job opportunities for Aerospace Engineers in a large variety of industries*

The aviation andaerospace industry, where developing flight and spacecraft and their components are designed and tested, is only one potential employer for air and space engineers. Approximately 500 to 600 graduates leave colleges and universities yearly. They work, for example, with airlines and airports, in the automotive industry, the wind industry, in engineering or consulting firms. They also work in the production field, where they organize aircraft production, or R&D, on the construction of aircraft or components like engines. In cooperation with public authorities, they help develop rules and guidelines for safety of the aircraft. Air and space engineers can also work in quality assurance or as experts in accident research.

“A skilled and qualified labour supply is essential for the competitiveness of the Aerospace Industry. Generally speaking, the quality of education and training in Europe shows a high standard. But there is no guarantee that Europe can keep up with the changing world in a way that maintains or enhances its technological position, as the demand for professional engineers and technicians will grow in all levels of the value chain. Worries about skills shortages are widespread in aerospace industries. European industry sources indicate that the availability of skilled workers and engineers has emerged as an important issue. Demand for highly skilled European aerospace workers is also growing at the lower levels of the value chain. Most of the worries about skills shortages are directed at engineering”


To meet the eligibility requirements for admission to Aerospace Engineering, all applicants must have, or soon obtain:

  • a Bachelor-degree in a relevant subject such as Aerospace-Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Mechatronics, Technical Physics etc. as long as 30 ECTS are in engineering core subjects such as engineering elements, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mechanics etc. have been part of the curriculum or alternatively
  • a Diplom-Ingenieur-degree (Dipl.-Ing. FH or TU/TH) in Aerospace-Engineering, Mechatronics or other Engineering subjects (see above)
  • Proof of English proficiency, required for all applicants whose native language is not English, can be submitted as follows (one):

    • Proof of successfully concluded academic degree (see above) in a country whose first and native language is English 
    • IELTS (min. 7.0 overall band score and in each subcategory no lower than 6.5)
    • TOEFL, IBT minimum score 95
    • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 

     Important note: without submitted proof of English proficiency, an application cannot be assessed or processed.

    In case an applicant has a personal interview at the FH, there is the opportunity to take a computer-based English language test at the FHWN (Oxford English Test).
