The full-time master's program in marketing offers you a practice-oriented education. It gives you the analytical and creative skills to satisfy customer needs.

Dramatic technological developments have changed the way we obtain information, make decisions, and interact. Marketing experts have to understand these changes and the way they affect strategies for new product development, customer relationship management, branding, and other marketing efforts.

The MSc in Marketing program prepares you for this challenging environment. It combines cutting-edge theory and practical applications. Students acquire the skills for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers through customized products and services.

Our students have an outstanding academic record and embrace international mobility. They have strong analytical and conceptual skills, an interest in analyzing practical issues, and in translating their findings into operational marketing plans. Company projects provide excellent opportunities to put their learning experience into practice.

5 Electives across three areas of specialization - individualize your education

Choose from three areas of specialization: Current Challenges in Digital Marketing, Marketing for a Better World, and Advanced Topics in Marketing.

30 Students per class - small & interactive

Almost all of the courses count a maximum of 30 participants. All classes are extremely interactive with a high degree of team work, which creates a collaborative and entrepreneurial atmosphere.

120 Partner Universities - opportunities to study abroad

50% of our students study abroad. Additionally to an exchange semester at one of WU's 120 prestigious partner universities, selected students can gain a double degree by doing their 2nd year at Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi (Milan, Italy).

Studieninhalt:

The Master Marketing is a full-time program which takes 4 semesters. Over the course of studies students acquire theory-based knowledge and methodological skills with a strong practice orientation.

First Year

In the courses of the first year you develop the core knowledge and skills. You will gain thorough grounding in the areas of customer-focused marketing and consumer behavior, research tools and planning techniques, as well as strategic and instrumental aspects of marketing. Furthermore, you will start linking ideas from different areas of your study subjects.

Second Year

In the second year students can specialize in the areas of their interests through several electives to choose from. Additionally, students have the option to develop more towards the qualification as a marketing specialist / executive function or an academic / advanced marketing management consulting career. The second year also offers opportunities to gain international experience through an exchange semester at a partner university or – for selected students – through a double degree with the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, Italy.

Studienaufbau:

Das englischsprachige Programm hat einen viersemestrigen Studienaufbau und umfasst 120 ECTS-Anrechnungspunkte, wobei 20 ECTS-Anrechnungspunkte auf die Masterarbeit entfallen. Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss des Studiums erhält man den akademischen Titel „Master of Science (WU)“, abgekürzt „MSc (WU)“.

Ziel der Kurse im ersten Jahr ist es, den Mehrwert von Marketing jenseits von Intuition und Kreativität im Sinne einer kundenzentrierten Managements zu vermitteln und die Verbindung von Marketing zu anderen unternehmerischen Funktionalbereichen verstehen zu lernen. Die Studierenden erwerben fundierte Kenntnisse in den Bereichen kundenorientiertes Management, Konsumentenverhalten, Marketingforschung, Datenanalyse und Entscheidungsunterstützung sowie strategisches und instrumentelles Marketing-Management. Um die Erfahrungen des ersten Jahres in die Praxis umzusetzen, wird empfohlen, während der Sommerpause ein Praktikum zu absolvieren.

Das zweite Jahr des Programms unterstützt die individuelle Entwicklung der Studierenden, indem das Studium durch unterschiedliche Wahlfächer den persönlichen Präferenzen angepasst werden kann. Derzeit werden Spezialisierungen in den Bereichen Retail and Sales Management, Service Marketing and Customer Relationship Management, Marketing-Management, International Marketing Management und Marketing Communications and Customer Behavior angeboten. Zusätzlich erhalten die Studierenden die Möglichkeit, sich entweder für eine spezialisierte Marketing- bzw. Führungsfunktion in der Unternehmenspraxis oder für eine akademische bzw. Managementberatungs-Karriere zu qualifizieren.

Qualifikationsprofil:

Nach Abschluss des Programms verfügen die Absolventinnen und Absolventen über vielfältige Kompetenzen. Sie können komplexe Marketingprobleme adäquat strukturieren und mit Hilfe leistungsfähiger Analysetechniken und Entscheidungsinstrumenten lösen. Sie haben auch umfassende Fähigkeiten erworben, unterschiedliche theoretisch-konzeptionelle Ansätze und empirische Methoden auf Spezialgebiete des Bereichs Marketing anzuwenden.

Berufsaussichten / Jobs:

Karrierechancen bestehen in einer Reihe von Organisationen, wie z. B. in

  • multinationalen Unternehmen: Durch profunde Kenntnisse in den verschiedensten Spezialbereichen des Marketings qualifizieren Sie sich für Managementaufgaben, etwa als Marken- oder Produktmanager/in, als Neuproduktmanager/in, als Sales-Manager/in, oder in den Bereichen Customer-Relationship- oder Kommunikations-Management bzw. als Leiter/in der Marktforschung.
  • kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen: In kleineren Unternehmen steuern sie alle strategischen und operativen Marketingmaßnahmen und tragen die Verantwortung für das gesamte Marketing und/oder die wichtigsten Marketing-Mix-Bereiche.
  • Beratungsunternehmen: Das Programm vermittelt auch jene fachliche, methodische und analytische Kompetenz, um z.B. als Consultant in der fortschrittlicheren Strategie- und Marketingberatung tätig zu werden.
  • Forschungs- und Bildungseinrichtungen: Insbesondere Absolventinnen und Absolventen, die im zweiten Jahr des Programms eine Spezialisierung auf den forschungsorientierten Track wählen, besitzen die notwendigen Fähigkeiten, um eine akademische Karriere im herausfordernden und spannenden Themengebiet Marketing zu starten.

We are looking for ambitious international and national students with outstanding qualifications and excellent social skills. Show us convincingly that you are an apt candidate for participation in the master in Marketing.

Minimum requirements for application

1. Relevant Bachelor's program:

Completion of or enrollment in a relevant Bachelor's program or other equivalent degree program at a recognized Austrian or foreign post-secondary institution. To be considered relevant, the completed program has to meet the following criteria:

  • The program comprises at least 180 ECTS credits. 180 ECTS credits correspond to three academic years.

  • 45 ECTS credits have to be earned by passing exams in the field of business administration.

Please note: It is not necessary to have completed this program at the time of application, proof of completion of your first-degree program is not required until actual enrollment. Nevertheless the requirements listed above have to be documented within the uploaded documents.

2. Sufficient proficiency in English:

  • English as native language

  • Full bachelor's program done in English (at least three years, university confirmation required)

  • Full master's program done in English (at least two years, university confirmation required)

  • One of the following valid certificates: TOEFL 100, IELTS 7.0, TOEIC 800, Cambridge English: CAE, CPE or BEC Higher, UNIcert III

  • A certificate from a university language department confirming the applicant has achieved level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The certificate has to proof that you took one or more tests to assess your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. These skills should correspond to level C1 or higher according to the CEFR. Course transcripts or confirmations about your overall language skills or certain language courses will NOT be accepted as proof of your language skills. If you are not sure whether your language certificate fulfils these criteria, please submit one of the standardized tests mentioned above.

  • Graduates of WU’s bachelor's program in Business Law and bachelor's program in Business, Economics and Social Sciences already fulfill this requirement

3. Achievement potential:

  • All applicants: valid GMAT with a total score of 500 or higher
  • WU alumni (bachelor program): either above or GPA of 2.5 or lower + recommendation
