Über das Studium:

New Technologies and Innovations for Medicine

The Master’s degree programme Medical Engineering is an extension and a deepening of the Bachelor’s degree programme Medical Engineering. It enables its students to acquire profound knowledge of Medical Engineering that is primarily focused on medical device and rehabilitation technology and oriented towards the practical needs of the profession. Students focus on 3 out of 4 areas of choice (electronics, biomechanics, medical device software, materials technology). These are enhanced by the obligatory module ’Medical Technology: Selected Subjects‘ and the module ’Medical Systems Engineering and Project‘.

Academic education is enhanced by a project work and a Master’s thesis, both of which require students to apply their knowledge and skills in a new environment. As part of the final examination, students have to present their conclusions underpinned by theoretical knowledge and their own rationale. Graduates are qualified as engineers with the ability to develop medical and rehabilitation devices within the regulatory framework of European markets and the ability to consider FDA regulations.

Fächer:

Diesen Fächern begegnest du u.a. im Studienplan:

Studieninhalt:

The consecutive master's degree programme Medical Engineering trains students to act as engineers with the ability to develop medical and rehabilitation devices in the regulatory framework of European and US-markets. The curriculum offers a) basics [11,25 ECTS], b) four technical modules: electronics, biomechanics, medical device software and materials technology (three of them are chosen by each student [30 ECTS] as well as c) the modules medical technology: selected subjects [17,5 ECTS], d) the modules medical systems engineering and project [31,25 ECTS]. Scientific fundamentals are applied in practise within a professional or scientific project. Within the master-thesis [30 ECTS] the students show the ability to work independently on an applied scientific issue.

So, the master’s degree program Medical Engineering qualifies students to work as engineers with the ability to develop medical and rehabilitation devices within the regulatory framework of European markets, and the ability to consider FDA regulations.

Enhanced education is provided by a project work and a master’s thesis, where students can apply their knowledge and problem solving abilities in a new or unfamiliar environment. In one part of the final diploma examination the students have to communicate their conclusions, and they show knowledge and rationale underpinning it.

Graduates are able to work as engineers for the development and placement of medical devices, their maintenance or as product managers. They can also function as application specialists, advisors for medical products, in the licensing of medical products, and participate in quality management in project development, project leadership and strategy development on a national or international level.

So far they have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, as well as formulate judgements (with incomplete) or limited information.

Berufsaussichten / Jobs:

Graduates will be able to apply of the knowledge they have acquired. The enhancement of their scientifically founded professional knowledge in connection with the engineering skills prepares them for leadership functions in medium-sized and larger projects as well as for a further scientific career, for example for doctoral studies. Medical engineers are employed in development, engineering production, and fields of regulatory affairs for the quality control and in the product management. They also serve as qualified advisors and as experts for technical sales and marketing. Health delivery organizations care system need medical engineers for the acquisition, care and maintenance of medical products. Further employers are the certification authorities and research facilities.
