Studieninhalt

Digital Economy is an interdisciplinary program because digitalization touches and changes many different parts of our life, which in turn are the focus of many different academic disciplines. In our program, you will engage with people, methods and theories from business, economics, IT, IT law and other fields of study. While we will offer specializations in these subjects in the second half of our program. In the first half, we will build a common body of knowledge that will give you a thorough grounding in all these aspects.

Studienaufbau

In the first two semesters you will learn foundations of Digital Economy from several perspectives, covering Strategic Aspects, Design Aspects, Implementation Aspects und Legal Aspects. You will also gain hands-on experience in our Business Project course, where you will be trained in front-to-end project management, from writing a proposal to planning and monitoring of digitalisation projects.

Building on this solid foundation you have the opportunity to specialize by choosing one of our electives - “Information Systems,” “Digital Law and Economics,” or “Digital Strategy, Marketing, and Transformation.” Moreover you will start to prepare and write your master thesis. In addition, you can choose between a more business oriented Industry Lab where you will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real life problems or a more research focused Research Lab to strenghen your academical career.

Qualifikationsprofil

After completing the Master’s Degree Program on the Digital Economy, students have acquired the following skills:

  • Holistic understanding of the impact of digitalization on business and society

  • Implementation skills in the sense of the constructive use, design, introduction, and management of digital technologies in companies

  • Systemic thinking: Understanding and analyzing the interrelationships and interactions between agents, their actions, and IT processes in complex systems

  • Ethical-social responsibility: Understanding the role of economic organizations and taking competing social, environmental, and ethical concerns and issues into account when dealing with data and within digital transformations

  • Decision making: Critically evaluating a variety of potential courses of action and approaches to solutions and arguing persuasively for the approach of their choice

  • Research: Following current research findings and technological developments and developing and implementing research projects in compliance with discipline-specific academic standards

  • Reflection: Critically reflecting not only on one’s own actions but also on processes in organizations

Berufsfelder

As a Digital Economy graduate, you will be in high demand on the labor market. The international job profile includes management functions in digital companies and in traditional companies that are implementing digital business models. You also have further career options in consulting and at public institutions or start-ups. Graduates initiate, design, and implement digital innovation at organizations or start their own digital businesses.

The application process takes place online. It's a rolling admission with three application deadlines (October 8, January 8, March 8).

Prerequisites include

  • a relevant prior degree with at least 180 ECTS,

  • with examinations in business administration/economics worth 42 ECTS,

  • 16 ECTS in information systems/computer science/mathematics/statistics

  • and excellent english skills.
